Carnival Splendor Cruise: LeHarve, France - September 12, 2008 : The first port we came to on our cruise was LeHavre, France. From there we took a day trip into Paris (3 hours away!) We drove all around the city for about 3 hours, stopping for photos of the Eiffel Tower twice, and then continuing on for a lunch cruise on the Seine River with Bateau Parisiens. I didn't take as many pictures as I would have liked to, but it was hard to take photos from the bus and on the lunch cruise, I was pretty busy eating and enjoying French wine! (So was mom!)

Carnival Splendor Cruise: Strait of Gilbralter Passage- September 17, 2008 : Our cruise was a special one because the ship passed through the Strait of Gibralter. The Strait divides the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranian Sea. At its narrowest point there are only 8 miles of ocean separating Africa and Spain. The famous natural landmark, the Rock of Gibralter, can be found on the Spanish side of the Strait.

Carnival Splendor Cruise: Barcelona, Spain - September 20, 2008 : From Barcelona we took an excursion up into the mountains to visit the Monastery at Montserrat. We arrived fairly early in the morning and because of the high altitude, the fog was still pretty dense, which added to the heavenly atmosphere of the monastery. The original monastery was built in the 11th century but was almost totally destroyed by Napoleon in 1811. The monastery was rebuilt in the late 1800s. Montserrat is considered one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites. Since the 12th century, pilgrims have been drawn to the mountain to venerate the miraculous statue of the Black Madonna (La Moreneta).

Carnival Splendor Cruise: Livorno, Italy - September 22, 2008 : Rather than taking a tour through Carnival, we investigated Livorno on our own. We walked the streets with the locals, had some wonderful gelato and then took a canal tour through the "old city." Afterwards we had pizza at a local reataurant before we headed back to the ship.

(No, I'm not much of a Britney fan, but her songs are in my vocal range.) The show was so much fun! It was a full production number: I sang with a live band, had dancers and had a costume complete with a wig!
