November 3, 2007 : The work on the trusses has been completed, now the fabrication of the lower chord from new lumber is beginning. When that is completed and the flooring re-installed in the bridge, this will be the end of Phase 1 of the project. Phase 2 will begin when the funding is approved at an undetermined time in the future. Once Phase 2 begins, the rotted upper chord will be replaced and the rest of the work completed. If the funding for this portion of the project is not approved soon, this work to save the bridge will have been done in vain.

September 1, 2007 : The lower chord of the bridge, which had severely rotted, has been removed to facilitate the work on the truss. Currently each truss member is being removed, inspected and new wood is being spliced in with the old where needed. Although the lower chord had severely deteriorated over time and will be replaced with new wood, the rest of the bridge's wood is in excellent condition (as you will see in the photos) and will be reused. The bridge's hardware, including the wrought iron members of the Smith truss, will also be reused.

July 28, 2007 : A temporary steel truss has been inserted into the bridge to support it during the renovation process. The weight of the bridge is now being totally supported by the steel truss and with the use of needle beams, the bridge has been raised off its abutments and pier. Once renovation is complete, the bridge will once again rest on its original abutments.
