Cynthiana's covered bridge carried traffic across South Fork of the Licking River from 1838 until 1944.
The 220 three span Burr arch truss was built by Greenup Remington from plans reportedly drawn by Lewis Wernwag. It was closed in 1944 due to being declared inadequate by the Kentucky Highway Department and then Harrison County officials decided to build a new bridge.
The bridge had been closed to traffic for two years before the roof, siding and floor were removed and the un-housed trusses then stood until they were pushed into the South Licking in December 1948. On Wednesday December 18, 1946, a 1936 Ford Coach carrying two teenage girls and four men attempted to cross the floorless bridge. Both young ladies and one of the men were killed in the crash or were drowned. A fourth occupant died the following evening in the hospital.
The bridge was removed little by little starting in 1946 and ending in the summer of 1948.
