This 270’ Howe truss was built by John & Matthias (sic) Lair and T. J. Megibben in 1871 over the South Licking River.
On July 11, 1946, Harrison County Judge-Executive W. E. Boswell and County Engineer W. H. Criswell inspected the old bridge and posted it condemned; thirty MINUTES later, the north span collapsed. Days later the collapsed section of the bridge burned reportedly due to a carelessly discarded cigarette. The remaining section of the bridge was later removed to facilitate the construction of its replacement span.
