The lower chord of the bridge, which had severely rotted, has been removed to facilitate the work on the truss. Currently each truss member is being removed, inspected and new wood is being spliced in with the old where needed. Although the lower chord had severely deteriorated over time and will be replaced with new wood, the rest of the bridge's wood is in excellent condition (as you will see in the photos) and will be reused. The bridge's hardware, including the wrought iron members of the Smith truss, will also be reused.
